COD Transition

11/17/2008 - Karen Ferranti

RE: Transitioning Co-Occurring Credentials to the IC&RC

Dear CCB Member,

I am pleased to share with you that the Connecticut Certification Board (CCB) is working with the International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC) to offer reciprocal certifications in Co-Occurring Disorders (COD). Once the CCB completes the process to offer reciprocal COD certifications, all those that become COD certified at the reciprocal level will have the benefit of reciprocity to other IC&RC member boards that recognize COD certification. Although the IC&RC has been offering COD certification for only a short time (currently only five states), we expect this number to significantly increase in the coming year.

The CCB has been offering COD certification since 1999 and we now have over 500 COD certified professionals in Connecticut. Once the CCB begins offering IC&RC reciprocal COD certifications in November 2008, the standards will be modified to require additional work experience hours, training hours, supervision hours and a written exam. If you currently hold a COD certification, you will be given a onetime opportunity to transition your COD credential to the IC&RC. The process to transition your COD credential is a simple one and is completely voluntary. However, it is important that you be aware that if you choose not to complete the transition process at this time (i.e., complete the simple application attached & pay the one time transition fee of $75.00 prior to the deadline on November 20th, 2008) you may be required to complete the written exam and additional training and work experience hours should you attempt to reciprocate to another IC&RC member board/state/region. We strongly encourage you to complete the transition process since it will not only ensure that your credential will be recognized by the IC&RC and you will be granted the IC&RC international certification in COD at no additional cost, but also to ensure that you will not be required to take the new IC&RC COD exam. In order to transition, you must currently hold a COD credential with the CCB and have a Bachelor's degree or higher in a behavioral health field. The transition deadline is November 20, 2008.

If you have any questions about the transition process, or need an application, please contact Karen Ferranti at kferranti@ctcertboard.org.

 Sincerely,

Marshall Rosier
Executive Director, CCB
